Stream: Shareefa f. Raheem DeVaughn, “Ya Love” MP3
Any minute now, Shareefa will impact her second Disturbing The Peace mixtape, The Misunderstanding Of Shareefa. Her last, Got Reefa? The Mixtape Vol. 1 kicked off with a huge co-sign from Ludacris (via cellphone!): “If you got Reefa in your system you can’t go wrong. The baddest R&B female I’ve ever heard in my life. You can hear the struggle, you can hear the pain, you can hear the emotion in her voice.” Then she slipped into sample of “Hurry Up This Way Again” by The Stylistics. Fast forward, to “Ya Love” from her new mixtape hosted by Don Cannon, Shareefa holds down the best of the east coast—New Jersey and Atlanta with her Jersey homie Radio Raheem (DeVaughn). Sidenote: Reefa kills, with her pipes. POW!

Raheem Devaughn, “I Would Die 4 U” (Prince Cover) MP3
Now that BET finally showed respect honored Prince’s lifetime contribution to music, the Purple One is still being praised with Raheem Devaugn’s remake of “I Would Die 4 U.” This rough mix maintains all the explosive percussion originally by The Revolution, but goes completely left field with a soul-clap break, then Raheem turns it into a wild Sunday spiritual. Chuuch! Tabernacle!

Raheem Devaughn f. Everyone in Neo Soul, “Nobody Wins a War” MP3

This is what that “We are the World” remake should have been: a group of singers (Raheem, Jill Scott, Bilal, Anthony Hamilton, Algebra, Chrisette Michele, Shelby Johnson, Ledisi, Citizen Cope, Dwele, Chico DeBarge and Rudy Currence) SINGING about conscious shit to move the people. There are so many talented people on this song we were scared our eardrums would explode but there are no ridiculous solos or singers getting crazy and yelling over each other. There is, however, Jill Scott preaching for a good minute at the end, which we’ve never been known to mind because we are members of the Jill Scott Soul Church of the Miracle of SAANGIN. Raheem’s album drops today. -Judnick Mayard
Raheem Devaughn f. Wale, “The Greatness” MP3
You could almost end this song at the “konichiwa ladies” ad lib because it’s so terrific, but then you would miss out on the strolling vibes of the beat and Raheem Devaughn’s fealty, smooth intonations. This is the kind of grown and sexy shit we get down with because it proves that it is possible to be grown and sexy without sounding like a relic. Kudos Raheem.

Raheem Devaughn, Mr. February aka March Madness Mixtape MP3

Smooth crooner Raheem Devaughn’s third album Love and War Masterpeace album is set for early March, so in advance of that “Radio Raheem” gifted us with a little 23-song (1) sampling of what he’s offering. This mixtape has a lot of club swing and low end, perfect for late nights and Miami poolside (which is where we wish we were right now). At least we can pretend with this? Check the tracklist after the jump.

Raheem DeVaughn f. Ludacris, “Bulletproof”
Sounding especially Curtis Mayfield-ish, Radio Raheem DeVaughn is looking out for his fellow man and he doesn’t like where he’s headed: straight to hell! Just kidding, kind of, but we must applaud DeVaughn for taking the opportunity to call out fast living because in these times a good friend, err concerned singer, is still hard to come by.

Ghostface f. Raheem Devaughn, “Baby” MP3

We are so anticipating Ghostface’s forthcoming soul album The Wizard of Poetry. A. We need him to sing. B. HE IS THE MOST ROMANTIC DUDE ON THE PLANET. On “Baby,” Raheem Devaughn gets a little autotuney on the hook and literally singing about having a baby. There is nothing to be mad at about this song.

Ghostface Names Forthcoming Soul Album “Wizard of Poetry”

A couple years ago (or something) we started hearing that Ghostface was going to record a whole R&B album in which he would sing—as best as he could—over what we can only imagine would be some really great grimy soul instrumentals. More than anything, that album seemed like a pipe dream, but Def Jam hotshot Lenny Santiago knows otherwise. Apparently the album will not feature Ghost singing on every song, but will pair him up with singers like Estelle, Raheem DeVaughn, Lloyd (awesome) and John Legend (no one asked for that pairing, but we’ll reserve judgment). While this is exciting news, we can’t help but be a little disappointed. Ghostface singing has become one of the most endearingly weird idiosyncrasies of dude’s already weird career. The bright side? The album is called The Wizard of Poetry. Beat that, everyone else in the music industry! (via Nah Right)—Sam Hockley-Smith
