Next week, Nina Sky won’t just bridge the gap of six years with a new album, they’re also launching a new website. By now we should expect the twins do things in pairs, anything less than a twosome would be a tease. They are looking to nail their EP The Other Side with an all-around campaign from leaking songs like their latest (produced by Kidz In The Hall’s Double O) and shooting webisodes documenting the long road to following In A Dream. The sky falls on August 3rd.

Friday night brought the 13th year anniversary of the longest running monthly dance party in NYC. DJ Rekha’s iconic birthday bash for her famed Basement Bhangra party brought together a wide range of artists from the Indian hip-hop and dancehall world as well as the NY soul duo, Nina Sky, plus a performance by DJ Rekha.

Twin sisters Natalie and Nicole played a short set brimming with hot remixes of hits like RHCP’s “Other Side” and “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics. Next was DJ Rekha spinning for the rest of the night cranking out international dance hits while momentarily showing off her dance moves throughout the night. A hybrid concert/dance party is what the Basement Bhangra continually brings, blending veterans and rising talent from around the world. If you missed it, then wait until May when Rekha returns to the DJ booth, and of course the dancefloor. Check out a couple of shots of Nina Sky after the jump.

Cloudkickers: Clearing Away the Overcast In Nina Sky

nina-sky-fader

Holy Déjà Vu! Nina Sky’s patience with their label Polo Grounds went out a 50-foot window last week when they used Twitter to air out their frustration over the mishandling of their sophomore album. Now here’s the double take: remember when the feud between the L.O.X vs. Diddy got ugly, spilling out onto Hot 97 with D-Block demanding to be let go from Bad Boy? Yeah, that one. Things are a little different though, since the advent of social networking. Natalie and Nicole posted the direct e-mail and phone number to label figurehead, Bryan Leech, which arguably one-upped Jadakiss’ tough talk about a refrigerator landing on Puffy. Ouch!

Nina Sky sez: if you dis me, boo, I’m going out with my FRIENDS. This is something we can cosign. Also, it’s nice to see these ladies back in the game. Granted, if you live in New York you know they’ve been out there grinding, but for everyone not fortunate enough to live in this GLORIOUS CITY, here’s a little teaser and a taste of what they’ve been doing (aka playing tons of shows and DJing like 14 times a month). Go Nina Sky!

Nina Sky “Beautiful People”

phphewcotam

Although the leak of a few tracks over the years have kept them in our ears, Nina Sky dropped in 2004, which makes their impending new album Starting Today, that much more exciting. Their new single “Beautiful People” shows an electrodancier side to the twins, and when paired with “On Some Bullshit,” it seems the girls aren’t taking too much or waiting on any man. So what can we expect on the new album? Another collabo with the hometown homey Rick Ross? Natalie’s writing skills? Nicole scratching on the 1’s and 2’s? The album is set to release late 2009, and certainly the growth of five years will be evident.
