Video: Ski Beatz f. Mos Def, “Cream Of The Planet”
No need to have your guard up the next time you pass a guy on the street reciting rhymes to an audience of one—that being himself. While most street mystics don’t rap as good or dress as sharp as Mos Def, the scene might be a memorable one like watching Mos lose himself in this flurry of darts: My hands keep clean, even off the books or a flip of the quasi-chorous about rapping endlessly, As long as I’m alive I’ma never stay rappin’/Sike! Super-nice. Walking with a drunken gait, he barely seems to get anywhere while his rhymes cover more ground with each verse a tangent of the other, over the smokey horn section of the Ski Beatz production. Mos Def’s poetry in motion is from the forthcoming Ski Beatz album, 24 Hour Karate School due this fall.

Stream: Mos Def, “Priority” (Acapella) MP3
Mos Def lent his signature I-don’t-need-to-breathe flow on this track he donated to the Raise Hope For Congo Compilation. The track was originally off his 2009 album The Ecstatic but he performs it here, acapella. The compilation is being put together by The Enough Project and KCRW Director: Nic Hancourt. It features other great artists like Bat for Lashes, Norah Jones and aims to raise funds for the Raise Hope for Congo Project that works toward empowerment of women who are subject to abuse and atrocities as an effect of the conflict in the Congo.

Goapele f. Mos Def, “Different” MP3
Holler “Ay Bay Bay,” at Goapele. For being the fine songstress who could cast a spell with her piercing voice that makes your knees buckle, her next album Milk & Honey can’t give us our fix soon enough. Granted there is no connection between Hurricane Chris’ claim to fame and the Bay Area where Goapele is from, but it could be the only good way to actually get her attention with the album’s delay since she announced it last year. She’s started talks about the album yet again with the release of Mos Def’s take on “Different,” a track she laid in 2005. Listen below.

Video: Gorillaz “Stylo” Live on Jools Holland
If this is what was going on across 110th street then we would officially move uptown. This song is already bonkers with a crazy video but to hear Bobby Womack’s vibratto wail live is just insane. He’s obviously the star of the song while looking super lowkey on stage. All-black-everything Bobby? We respect that.
A few thoughts: How one would go about becoming a back up singer for Gorillaz? Where are the auditions advertised? Are the interviews animated? How awesome would it be to wear one of those hats with the little cherry on top? Yeah!!! We’re gonna ponder Damon Albarn’s universe, you guys watch after the jump.

Gorillaz f. Mos Def & Bobby Womack, “Stylo” MP3

If you can handle this, just try and imagine a song that is part Kool and the Gang “Ladies Night,” part dark electro beats, part Mos Def, part Bobby Womack, and part “did I just eat a salad or were those ’shrooms?” Not even possible unless you are part Gorillaz. Thanks to a group of “Russian pirates,” the first single off of the Gorillaz upcoming album Plastic Beach is now available streaming on the Gorillaz site. After hearing of the leak, Murdoc Niccals announced on Twitter that if anyone was leaking “Stylo” it would be him. Plastic Beach hits the US on March 9 and features a wide range of talent including De La Soul, Kano, Bashy, Little Dragon, and Snoop Dog, among others. -Eric Sandler

Video: Mos Def f. Talib Kweli, “History”
These two have quite a bit of “History” together and this song is just a reminder of the majesty that was that Black Star LP. In fact, people probably ask either of them about a reunion on a daily basis, but that’s also not going to stop us from asking here. And by asking, we mean demanding. MAKE ANOTHER BLACK STAR ALBUM NOW PLEASE!
The Black Keys f. Mos Def & Jim Jones, “Hoochie Coo”
If anybody else was fiending for the backing track in the footage from the The BlakRoc Project we put up the other day, well here you go! Between the instrumentation of the Black Keys and the sing-songiness of the Mighty Mos, the song OOOZES soul. I was never much for Jimmy Jones, but I’ll admit that I am NOT mad at him on this song. I don’t know if its because his verse is actually good or it’s because Mos’ southern gypsy chant that has me in a trance, blinding my ears. And maybe it’s that same voice that’s allowing me to tolerate Dame Dash (for a moment) for putting this together.

Dame Dash presents: The Blakroc Project
http://www.vimeo.com/6591029In the past few years, Dame Dash hasn’t really been a name to tie to a lot of great music projects. I hear his name and see a video link and figure its probably an old video of him going off in a label meeting, or telling stories on his ex-homeboy Jay-Z. I can admit that I haven’t been too fond of him personally, but I must say I’m quite fond of his latest endeavor. Coining it the Blakroc Project, he’s paired his “new favorite band,” The Black Keys (not that one) with hip hop artists The Mighty Mi (of Hi & Mighty), Mos Def, Rza, Pharoahe Monch, Raekwon, Jim Jones, Q-Tip, Billy Danze and Nikki Wray. You guys remember Nikki Wray, aka Nicole Wray…aka “Make It Hot”? Yes her! That said, this is definitely something I’m checking for. And from the footage and sound above, its seems like this is going to be one soulful album. The Blakroc Project is currently scheduled for release on Black Friday, November 27th.
Exclusive: Georgia Anne Muldrow, “Roses Pt. 2″

Georgia Anne Muldrow is some mystical studio wiz—her productions always sound simultaneously like she’s singing directly in your ear, and transmitting a missive from outer space. On “Roses Pt. 2,” the sequel to “Roses” (a track Mos Def recently copped for The Ecstatic), Ms. Muldrow sounds jubilant and spiritual, optimistic and funky as ever. This is from her latest album, Umsindo, which dropped yesterday on the internets and will hit what record stores remain next week (the same day as the Dudley Perkins record, which she also produced, and has similar Hendrix-lev psychedelic cover art).
