Stream: Jesse Boykins III, “Mystery of Iniquity” (Lauryn Hill Cover) MP3

jbiii-mystery

From Lauryn Hill’s CD that had no beats, “Mystery of Iniquity,” JBIII puts his spin on Ms. Hill’s earthy record. The strings being the only instrument carrying the tune when she riffed into tears, Jesse puts to the test Madlib’s strings from Erykah Badu’s “Incense” for his calm cover.

Video: Jesse Boykins III, “B4 The Night Is Thru”

jesse-boykins-iii-santos

Jesse Boykins III is well-versed in the party styles of Suite903 since he played our launch last year. This new video features many things can also be seen inside our HQ: champagne bottles, girls and red lights. What can we say, we know how to have a good time. This video is actually a short film about Santos Party House (as a modern day Studio 54, which is far off in comparison) but serves as an equally flattering backdrop for his single channelling the disco era. This one is off his upcoming Love Apparatus album and we like the tone. Hopefully the rest of the project is just as smooth. If you want to catch it live, swing by the Studio at Webster Hall on the 22nd of this month for Jesse’s show with MeLo-X. Hopefully there will be some sort of Dipset street DVD-esque shout out moments on stage, just like in this video. Yeah, we’re not kidding.

Download: MeLo-X Mustafa The GodKing: Rise of The Merch Album

melo-x-mustafa-the-god-king

Without warning, without reservation of any kind, MeLo-X has declared his new album Mustafa The GodKing: Rise of The Merch. Well, a little mention of another strong effort like Mustafa’s Renaissance was in the works, just no said date as to when it would arrive. MeLo, and his management were confident in his next release during MeLo’s recent DJ set a few weeks back at the new pop up shop for VANE, a burgeoning apparel/accessories brand and media company active in following MeLo’s exploits between beats, rhymes, and life. The album is a labor love because MeLo is hands on creating every single detail from the music to shooting the album cover himself. Outside of being a complete MeLo production embracing his stance as an MC and a ladies man, he’s limited his guests to oft-collaborators like Jesse Boykins III, and J. Carmelli of Blind Benny (and Jade<3). Check out a sample from the album after the jump, plus tracklist and link to the album.

Video: Jesse Boykins Uses Acoustic Guitar to Explain

jbiii-guitar-screen

Jesse Boykins III sat down during rehearsal in the UK to sing a little something he’s working on. As always with a voice that’s closer to a strong, sultry whisper, he sings “Explanation,” a tune where he attempts to excuse his transgressions to his lady. We’re pretty sure if he’s been using this voice all along, the lady may have already forgiven him but we’re not sure how deep the betrayal goes. Certainly writing a song about it and performing it acoustic must count for something. Listen after the jump.

Video: Jesse Boykins III Prepares For Writer’s Block Anniversary Show

writersblock_uk_flyer_jb3

JB3 is running the map. With a string of shows lined up between Florida (April 24th) and NYC (June 6th), you might pull a hammy trying to catch him overseas for his big show with Writer’s Block. Next week Jesse Boykins III will be in London Town for the two year celebration of the events put on by the British literary/poetry crew.

They’re promoting with a little more texture than a regular flyer, sort of what you’d expect from the earthy, emo vibes of spoken word. Atif Ateeq directed a short clip of Jesse jamming at a piano of what to expect for his UK debut. Video after the jump.

The Clubhouse On Producing Theophilus London’s “Life of a Lover”

theclubhouse-suite903From left to right: Matt McMahon and Andrew Reid are The Clubhouse.

There is no TV in the Victorian-style mansion where Matt McMahon and Andrew Reid live. Having television as an entertaining distraction can be a nice addition to the household, but that just wouldn’t make it the real rustic getaway we come to associate with clubhouses. Andrew and Matt dubbed their group’s name after their Brooklyn outpost for creativity where they craft beats for rap new jacks like F Dot Stokes and Theophilus London. In their spare time, well, there’s no days off from the studio, unless it’s to mess with photography, and build paper mache models. Suite903 spoke with Matt and Andrew who recently landed the first single off of Theophilus London’s next mixtape, I Want You. Turn off your TV, and get to know The Clubhouse.

Premiere: Keelay, The Park & Jesse Boykins III, “Crash My Hard Drive” MP3

keelay

Collaborating on a Valentine’s Day themed single, SF producer Keelay (of Keelay and Zaire) brought in Bay Area groove consultants, The Park, to back up the dynamic and soulful Jesse Boykins III. The point of the song: all them girls crashing your hard drive in this digital age. Keelay explains, “Crash My Hard Drive is what we like to call Social Media Love for all of us who have ever had our hard drives crashed.” I mean come on, if your relationship doesn’t start on Facebook nowadays, you just aren’t creeping hard enough. So whether you’re out with your girl on Valentine’s Day or just clicking through some Facebook photos, check out their project. There’s no question that The Park brings that groove that makes you wanna dance. Combined with Jesse’s vocals and Keelay’s feel, you will no doubt get a full dose of soulful woe for those of us that have ever had our hard drives crashed. -Eric Sandler

Video: Jesse Boykins III, “Itis”

OKAY JESSE! This video is jumpstarting our Monday for real. Not only is Jesse kind of doing the thing on this song, soulful without being predictable, this video is super classy and classic without feeling too old or fearful of the new. Or, in a word: SENSUAL. OKAY!
