Video: “Everybody’s Haitian” PSA

lloyd

It has been stressed that the earthquake in Haiti was catastrophic not just because of the immediate damage, but moreso the years of recovery and reconstruction that will be needed. Now, more than ever, is the time to remind folks that people are still homeless and the country is still in disaster mode. Rocawear and Program LLC got together to make a video featuring the story of earthquake victim Martine Cathune as told by several artists and personalities including Lloyd, J. Cole and Wale. We’d like to shout out our girl Miss Info whose Creole at the ending was impeccable. Mostly, we just want everyone to keep donating and keep doing whatever you can to help. It’s easy to forget about something when it’s no longer a twitter TT but donating isn’t a trend. For those who still have families and friends in Haiti, it’s an everyday struggle. Watch after the jump.

Interview: Rosemond Jolissant, Haitian Wunderkind

Suite903’s worldly reach has zoned in on Haiti with an interview with Rosemond Jolissant. A past winner of Digicel Stars (the American Idol of Haiti), he is one of the most promising artists coming out of the country. We sat around, chatted (in CREOLE no less), and then he played some music for us. Besides getting over his shock of flying to New York in the middle of snowicane, from a country where the average temperature is 85 everyday, he was pretty chill and super sweet. He was on a trip to raise funds for the organization that he works with, SOIL, a cause now spotlighted in the media due to the devastating earthquake, which he experienced. We were glad to have him come by and cheer up the office on a dreary Friday evening in the midst of his hectic schedule. Don’t get it twisted though, this kid is the one of the most laid back people we’ve ever met. You’d never guess he’s flying all over the world, recording albums with international musicians, raising funds for his country and still going to high school. All we managed to do in high school is develop bad life habits and sorta get into college. Check our translated interview and a video of one of his original songs after the jump. -Judnick Mayard

Video: Lupe Fiasco & Kenna, “Resurrection”

This is the official video for the track these dudes made for Haiti, and accordingly it’s a collage of stunning, heartbreaking images from the destruction and recovery. It’s also a good reminder that the post-earthquake situation is going to affect the country for years, so don’t stop donating just because it’s not in the immediate news cycle.

Video: Wyclef Jean & Mavado, “Hold On”

YouTube Preview Image
Wyclef and Mavado are two proud sons of two very prideful countries; one of which is going through the worst natural disaster this world has seen in a very long time. As the man who singlehandedly made it “cool” to be Haitian, Wyclef has always carried his country on his back and this situation is no different. Amongst drama and accusations he’s still on the ground in Haiti helping. The choice to listen and / or believe is a personal one but he’s going to keep crying out for help. Haiti may not be the only country that needs it and honestly we shouldn’t wait until disasters to lend a hand but this is a time to look past differences and see the humanity that exists beyond our borders. The final images of the video show a Haiti that once was and hopefully will soon be again. Keep donating way past when the media moves on. The country needs it. -Judnick Mayard
