Video: Erykah Badu f. Rick Ross, “Window Seat” (Remix)
The fatal end of Erykah Badu in the original video to “Window Seat” wasn’t the direction you’d expect for a lady who went streaking on a beautiful day in Dallas, Texas. Sure the subsequent controversey that ruffled feathers in real life was inevitable, but now the story continues down an even darker path of surprises that only result in more question marks. Rick Ross’ guest appearance on the record continues his string of knockouts from the summer of Ross; on the other hand, his purpose as Badu’s partner in “crime” is about as fuzzy as her blowout hair-do. Who knows if he’ll make it to the trilogy, that is if there is a third episode left in this cliffhanger.

Cyriously: A Child Witnessed Erykah Badu, You Mad?
Each week Cyrus Kyle Langhorne weighs-in on hot button issues with his sharp commentary. This week’s subject: Erykah Badu.
Okay, let’s be clear: this is not a real “diss” posting and I would never want to make any reader feel like a child has a one up on a grown man (or woman). After listening, watching and reading all this recent controversy surrounding Erykah Badu and her “Window Seat” music video, I have to vent through a few bars, and get down to the nitty gritty.

Erykah Badu’s Secret Show Recap
The best queens of R&B know the value of anticipation. It is to the audience’s benefit, in a weird way, to wait. So much, it’s part of Erykah Badu’s legend status, that at this point waiting forher show, like I did on Saturday night, is like butterflies in your stomach before a second date. Excitement is the bread and butter to snack on, before she even steps on stage. That’s a true star!

Video: Erykah Badu Is Dolled Up In Her Window Seat

Technically it takes Erykah Badu 4 minutes and 20 seconds to do her makeup. The other 32 seconds of Ms. Erykah’s teaser is saved for mugging in the mirror, and a few funny faces (no fuck faces, sorry guys). Is she trying to send a message through “Window Seat”? She will grant fans intimate access to the treasured moment of beautification. Clearly vanity doesn’t kill. Erykah puts on her best. Now only if Vanity 6 could have got the memo back in the day for “Make Up.” See the video below.

Video: Erykah Badu, “Window Seat” Live on Fallon
Earlier we were actually thinking we would CUT A CHICK (angsty Thursdays), but then we remembered the quasi-mantra we copped from Erykah on our favorite album of hers, Worldwide Underground, drank a little water and tried a little yoga. And watching her do “Window Seat” with the Roots as her backing band inspired us to sit the hell back down and breathe. This woman is the best. Also is she wearing a LEOTARD?! WORD UP.
Video: Erykah Badu Live at the All-Star Game
Between Usher waging war with PETA, Alicia Keys looking like an 8th grader at the zoo and Shakira leaving us with no comment, the performances at the All-Star game were a tragedy. However, there is always a silver lining, and Erykah Badu was it. Ms Loretta Brown showed up lookin like that hot British nanny ya mama never let your daddy hire and set things in order. (Just kidding, we had au pairs!) She performed a cover of “You’ve got a Friend” with just a keyboard player, Suite903 homie Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner (with the stunna shades on!) on upright bass and a trio of singers—once again proving that sometimes less is more. It was probably the best moment of the whole weekend, including that yawntastic Dunk contest, because everyone loves some Badu. Even the groupies get down with Loretta Brown…well…not like that. She’s back and the rest of you folks should get your game up. — Judnick Mayard
Video: Erykah Badu f. Lil Wayne, “Jump Up in the Air (And Stay There)”
Not going to lie, the beginning of this video is not for those with weak stomachs. Four interlocking Erykah Badu faces are just very intense. Especially when her eight eyes are peering into your soul on the Monday morning after Valentine’s Day weekend. Listen Erykah we did some things we’re not proud of but you can’t judge us like this!!! (Just kidding, we spent the weekend watching the Olympics and wishing we could win a gold medal; forget flowers!) Anyway, we don’t know how strong the “Free Weezy” campaign is but Miss Badu is obviously on it and maybe secretly so are we? Who knows but we definitely want more of these two in our lives. –Judnick Mayard
