mj

This Saturday, August 29th, our generation’s favorite director Spike Lee is throwing one hell of a birthday party for the late great Michael Jackson: “a Brooklyn style block party” in the borough’s lush Prospect Park with DJ Spinna on the 1’s and 2’s spinning the endless and timeless MJ hits. This is sure to one of the more memorable days in a classic NY summer. And not only will it be a one-day celebration, but the president of the BK will be on hand to declare it Michael Jackson day. He may not be in the ground yet, but surely this will keep him resting in peace.

With his first full hip-hop album in ten years dropping tomorrow, DJ Spinna threw us an exclusive preview of what to expect on Sonic Smash. “Melody” is just that… melodic; featuring Shambaam Sahdeeq and Erik Rico, the song is as easy on the production as it is on your ears. A smooth explanation of what a relationship is, or isn’t, all about. The album, coming out on High Water Music, will have features from Phonte, Elzhi, Fresh Daily, Torae and more. With his many roles in music, from his beginning as an artist with his group The Jigmastas, to being an influential producer for that ’90s New York sound working with everyone from Mary J. Blige to Mos Def, the influential DJ Spinna knows what we want to hear.
