Don’t let the title of the cyber love opus fool you though, it’s not the same ol’ song sung by rapping technophiles. History has proven you can’t trust songs that involve sexting, e-mailing nude pics, or the flavor of the month, Chatroulette. We come to expect a sample of Zapp & Roger’s “Computer Love,” followed by a subsequent video of models spending what brain cells are left on their pewters. Straight out of Philadelphia, two-piece hip-hop/remix duo Chiddy Bang made a stop in NYC and sat down with Suite903 for a quick interview after the show with the help http://looseworld.com/. DJ/drummer/keys extraordinaire Xaphoon Jones and frontman Chiddy Bang were on their game playing for a packed pro-Chiddy mob at the Webster Hall Studio. It was dope! Widely known for their remix of MGMT’s “Kids” called “Opposite of Adults,” Xaphoon and Chiddy are rising out of the Philly underground scene and into the mainstream hip-hop circuit. Between playing South By Southwest later this month and releasing a new album near the end of the summer, the name Chiddy Bang is sure to RAANG in a city near you soon enough. Playing the tracks, scratching the samples, my role as a music technician was the heir apparent to a Michael Caine in The Prestige. Despite where the spotlight shines—most of the time in the direction of the talent—there was always someone who can see the pledge, and the turn, before the prestige. That is what FADER Media did when they tapped me as Suite903’s new editor. Who knew that months after running through London town, Japan to California, that I’d be here as an eyewitness to the musical massacre journalists pen from a distance. We go in to give those first-hand accounts, the flashes of brilliance that come with the first four bars of an artist’s voice, or the glow of a true performer through Suite903TV. For four strong years between 2006 and now, Bobby Ray couldn’t get any play from the ladies. Dude tried his best: he rapped, produced, played guitar, even sang his own hooks for the most part. The downside is that self-proclaimed weirdo thing, which doesn’t get the panties dropping like a hook from Bruno Mars.

Check Bruno’s résumé. The west coast rep has been doing his Nate Dogg thing aside new and established artists in the game. Bruno’s credited on Flo-Rida’s “Right Round” and sang with thug passion on “Ey DJ” with Jibbs. “Nothin’ On You” is just another bogarting of a chorus. BRUNO MARS DOES A MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE AT ZANZIBAR

It’s not that we hate on guitar-weilding crooners. Bruno plucks the strings too, but just comes off more as a ladies man than some guy rocking with his cock out. Even Michael Jackson, as questionable as some of his hobbies were, he knew how to pander to his female following. Part of that comes with 100% disclosure with songs about how dudes feel about ladies. Bruno did just that covering a medly of the Gloved One’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” and “I Want You Back.”

BRUNO MARS “AGAIN”

Ballads! That’s where Bruno puts his presence on the mic to the test. Look at American Idol, there’s a reason why Simon Cowell and company pick some of the sappiest songs to sing on national TV. When they win, you end up hearing their drawn out confessionals in supermarkets, shopping malls, or at the dentist. Hate ‘em or love ‘em, it’s a road great singers have to walk, and Bruno is off and running with this gem about a bad decision gone right.

FAR EAST MOVEMENT F/BRUNO MARS “3D”

Sure “Nothin’ On You” has the depth that Bobby Ray needs to get the estrogen vote but this Far East Movement collab with Bruno Mars knows the ins and outs of women just as well. “38-24-37″ is how Q-Tip envisioned three dimensional measurements for ladies that stack bundles—bust, waist, hip—but FM is talking more of the material things that make females pop out from shutter shades to gaudy sneakers. That is if you’re into that sort of thing, of course.

JIBBS F/BRUNO MARS “EY DJ”

Lloyd trumped Bruno Mars as the featured guest on this cut from Jibbs second album, which has yet to see the light of day. Who layed their verse first is up in the air because it’s the same lyrics, but Lloyd does better ad-libs. Still for the sake of riding with Bruno Mars, we’re putting our young money on BM for writing the chorus.

JIBBS F/BRUNO MARS “ALL THIS MONEY”

One mention of money, then Jibbs makes it rain with another song with Bruno Mars. This time, Bruno flips Bobby Brown’s “Every Little Step” hook into peeling money rolls until your thumbs get the papercuts. Cha-Ching!

This is the official video for the track these dudes made for Haiti, and accordingly it’s a collage of stunning, heartbreaking images from the destruction and recovery. It’s also a good reminder that the post-earthquake situation is going to affect the country for years, so don’t stop donating just because it’s not in the immediate news cycle.

Technically it takes Erykah Badu 4 minutes and 20 seconds to do her makeup. The other 32 seconds of Ms. Erykah’s teaser is saved for mugging in the mirror, and a few funny faces (no fuck faces, sorry guys). Is she trying to send a message through “Window Seat”?
